SBS-2 PROFESSIONAL MODE-S/ADS-B RECEIVING STATION

A mere six months after electrifying the low-cost training and aviation enthusiast market with the launch of its award-winning SBS-1 virtual radar system, Kinetic Avionic Products Limited is poised to repeat this success in the wider aviation market, with the launch of the SBS-2 Professional Mode-S/ADS-B Receiving Station.

The SBS-2 builds upon the SBS-1's proven Mode S receiver technology with features including Mode-A/C/S and ADS-B processing, RF monitoring, on-board database, Ethernet feed and CAT 21 data stream. The SBS-2 unit is housed in a 19" rack-mounted chassis with touch-screen display, keyboard and mouse.

The SBS-2 fulfils the needs of a wide range of users such as airport operators, airlines, flying schools, avionics manufacturers, military, government and police organisations, air traffic managers, educational establishments, and research organisations. Possible roles include use as an ADS-B ground station, fleet identification and tracking, cross-country navigation management, passive air traffic surveillance, detection of transponder malfunctions and anomalies, as well as a huge number of specialist/bespoke functions. The SBS-2 is ideal for integration into OEM applications.

The SBS-2 will be followed by the SBS-2M, which will add multilateration to the standard SBS-2. (All SBS-2s will be upgradable to the SBS-2M specification).

David Goodman, KAPL's CEO, says, "The possibilities for SBS-2 usage are practically endless, and we've constructed it to support that. The unit outputs in a wide number of formats, ranging from raw Mode A/C, Mode S and ADS-B data, to processed aircraft data and a CAT 21 compliant data stream. Data can be received in real-time, or logged to the internal hard drive for later retrieval. And the hardware is built so that it can be extended, upgraded and customised."

The SBS-2 will be officially launched at the ATC Maastricht Trade Show (14th to 16th February 2006); however, KAPL have already taking orders, with first deliveries expected in February 2006.
